Good Morning!!
Over the weekend I was looking over a Facebook Fan page for of a local business, which inspired me to write a quick post to cover some of the basics of Target Marketing and engagement when making posts on you Facebook Fan Pages
The Business had created a Facebook Fan Page for their Local business and had started posting updates about their business on a regular basis (2-3 x per week). However, they were just not getting any results back from this (sound familiar anyone??). When I asked “what results you are expecting?” The answer was, “well, I’m not really sure, I guess more business”
OK… So this is one thing I suggest you are clear on before developing a Fan Page. If you have already have a page and this is not something you are clear on… NOW is the time to reassess and get some clarity on this, that way you have a clear goal to work towards, and can be clear and concise about what your message is going to be and measure if your efforts have been successful, or not!
Being sure about what you goal is for your Facebook Fan Page for your Local business will help give you more direction on the type of post you want to make. In this case, all of the posts were focusing on weekly specials and marketing their companies services, what I like to term as ME ME ME!!
The fact of the matter is, if you are a baker then your specialist knowledge and expertise is most probably in how to make the most delicious bread, If your business is a Beauty Salon your specialist are of knowledge is most likely in skincare or waxing, yes? This is were many small business struggle when it comes to creating effective Fan Page content, as some marketing knowledge is required, and the reason some choose to use to outsource this task to a social Media Manager, so they can concentrate on what you do best, running your business.
However, all is not lost, if you do not have a Social Media Manager then here 10 tips to help you ditch the me me me mentality and start creating posts to ensure more success on you local businesses Facebook Fan page:
- 1st of all you have to know your exactly who your target audience is of your Local Business is. What are their Demographics? ( Do you know yours?)
- You have to know and understand the needs of your target audience, what problems do they face, what do they what, what do they need. Taking the time out to do this can be very helpful in understanding what to post about.
- Identify how and which of your services / products fulfil theses needs.
- Avoid making every post a sale orientated, promotion or special offer in other words all about YOU or your business, make them about your clients!
- Create posts which fulfil the needs of your clients.
- Have existing customers rave about their experience of your product or services on your page.
- Aim to educate, empower and enthuse your audience, encourage and provoke your customers to engage with you, share, comment on and like your posts as this will increase your reach and like’s to your page. Ask questions? Ask them what they would like?
- Use the 80/20 guide. 80% business 20% other info you think your clients may be interested in.
- If you are A DIY store, give DIY tips, if you are a Salon offer beauty tips, if your business is a restaurant offer recipes! Do not come from a place of scarcity ie if I educate them on how to do it they won’t need me ! The more value you offer, the more credibility and trust and loyalty you will develop with your ‘likers’.
- Create a community with your customers on your page, use your posts to show customers what you stand for as a business, and build a relationship with your audience.
Yes this takes time, you need to be both consistent and patient however, these type of post will encourage people to leave their computer and come into your store far more than just ‘today’s special is…’
